Gillingham
I work at InterRoute in Gillingham, which is a joint
partnership between Mott MacDonald and Balfour Beatty
Infrastructure Services to look after Area 4 for the Highways
Agency. I work in the structure teams. At the moment I am learning
the basic and the best way for this is to work in the inspections
team looking after 836 structures that are in Area 4. Due to the nature of the contract which we have in our office we cover everything from design to construction so as a graduate you get a feeling of the processes that are needed to get a project up and running. Due to the number of disciplines in the office there is always someone to ask advice on when it comes to achieving objectives for my training agreement, which is good.
One of the many new things that I have experienced while in the inspection team is doing confined spaced training. This therefore allows me to inspect the voids in the bridges. Above is a picture of me on one such occasion crawling through a void on the Medway viaduct on the A21 not so easy when you are 6’2’’
