Meet our graduates

Clare Wilson

Clare WilsonWhen I was researching engineering opportunities after finishing my studies – Geology at Oxford University and an MSc in Water Resources Technology and Management at the University of Birmingham – Mott MacDonald definitely stood out from other companies. It seemed to be a place I could fit in and I thought I’d have the opportunity to work on some technically very interesting projects with good prospects for future progress and responsibility.
Mott MacDonald also seemed to offer a good training programme for graduate engineers. I’m on the training programme for the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and have a mentor who helps me set goals and review progress. I find that continually keeping an eye on what I’m aiming for and reviewing what I need to do in order to continue developing and gaining experience and responsibility is really worthwhile.

I’ve attended a number of formal training courses on subjects such as customer care and financial management which are very well run and worthwhile. In the Cambridge office where I’m based we have a regular programme of lunchtime talks where people share their project experiences, ways of working and skills. The annual ‘environment big day out’ when all the Mott MacDonald environmental staff from around the world get together for a day of activities and socialising is another opportunity to network and learn from colleagues. I find the less formal on-the-job training absolutely vital – through working with talented and experienced professionals the opportunities to learn are endless.
