Meet our graduates

Katherine Jackson

Katherine JacksonI’ve always been interested in making a difference in the community, which is why I was attracted to Mott MacDonald as corporate responsibility (CR) is an integral part of the company’s values. There are many opportunities to get involved in CR initiatives both at a local level and internationally. I am a science and engineering/construction ambassador, which involves visiting schools/colleges and promoting civil engineering, through careers and activity days. Last year I organised a bridge building competition at a local school, where children aged 9 to 14 competed to build the strongest bridge. Mott MacDonald also sponsored the competition.

While studying for a MEng degree in civil engineering at Portsmouth University I had a summer placement with Mott MacDonald and I worked on the A303 Stonehenge Scheme. I enjoyed the work and the friendly atmosphere in the office, so I came back the following summer. Again I had a good experience, so when I was offered a permanent job on completion of my degree, I said yes.

My work in the community has been recognised by my recent win of the "Steve Tebb Award for excellence in schools outreach", which was sponsored by the ICE
South Branch.

I enjoy the variety of the work at Mott MacDonald, I am currently working on a pavement design project for the A3 Hindhead scheme, M25 DBFO tender and Area 4 Pavement Investigations. Recently completed projects I have worked on include an anti tail-gating trial on the A34, a tender design for a new road in Ireland and a congestion reducing scheme for London and the Humber Bridge Northern Approach Reconstruction project
