I completed my industrial placement with QS firm
Franklin + Andrews which joined Mott MacDonald while I was there.
That year was so enjoyable for me as it enhanced my understanding
of the quantity surveyor’s role. Franklin + Andrews has such a good
reputation and when it became part of Mott MacDonald the
opportunities to work on major projects around the world made it a
very attractive company. This plus the working environment and the
people are the main reason I came back to Franklin + Andrews after
I completed my final year. One of my first roles was assisting a senior surveyor in monitoring a refurbishment project. I was involved in different tasks, including measurement, estimating and tender analysis, plus corresponding and communicating with the project team. I also attended site meetings and site visits, where I got to see the ins and outs of the project, helping me to relate my construction technology to the actual building site.
I’ve found that I’m constantly being given chances to perform and prove my work ability. When I have issues that are beyond my ability, there is always someone willing and able to help me out. This is great as I know that once I have been shown what to do, I will be able to solve similar problems in the future. Personally, I like to be able to perform and I like to be appreciated – here I get both.
