Funny Wu working with orphans
Photography by heart for the love of Yunnan
Environmental scientist, Funny Wu who works for our
Hong Kong business, has launched her new book co-authored with
Wendy Wong and Helen Tsang "Photography by heart for the love of
Yunnan", about her work with orphans in Lijiang in the Yunnan
Province of China.Over the last five years Funny has been supporting Lijiang orphans and their carers in her free time giving them her energy and support in various ways, including helping them to celebrate Chinese New Year as well as organising and running summer camps for groups of up to 100 and 200 orphans.
Lijiang, located in the southwest of China at 2400m above sea level, is widely acknowledged as a place of outstanding beauty and a World Heritage site. Streams flow through the streets and houses are built according to the flow of water from the Black Dragon Pool which originates from the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. However, two recent major earthquakes of February 1996 and November 1998, measuring 7.0 and 5.6 respectively on the Richter scale, have resulted in a large population of orphans or "unwanted" children. Funny has been working with these children and captures both the beauty of the Lijang landscape and the plight of these children through her photography.
The book can be obtained via publishers www.tangsbooks.com ISBN 962-8787-75-6. It is currently available in Chinese only at a price of HK$72 around US$9.2. Funny hopes that this book will help raise awareness of the children and help to bring hope to their lives.
